Introduction
The principal task of the modern education system is training people that can think critically and are capable to steer in the information flows(N.A. Nazarbayev)
The main cornerstone of the independent country is the educated generation. The key issue for the future of the state is education and upbringing of young people. The main objective of the education reform of the Republic of Kazakhstan is to adapt the educational system to a new economic environment. In this context, the President of the country N.A. Nazarbayev is aware that our country has set itself the task of joining the 50 most competitive countries in the world. Improving the education system plays an important role in achieving this goal. In order to become part of the civilized, developed countries, there is a need for modern knowledge. The basis of development is education and science. Therefore, as developed countries of the world, improvement of the quality of education in the independent country is one of the main issues. In this regard, it is important for the educational system to provide students with quality education, their cohesive development and personal development, as teacher’s professional skills with a comprehensive knowledge of pedagogical, scientific-theoretical, methodological innovations and best practices. Basically, this educational program is a competence and quality — oriented program. The updated educational program included in the educational process of our state is a great program that meets the needs of the future generation. The main objective of the educational program is to introduce a system of criteria-based assessment and modify teaching methods and to be able to effectively use it. The importance of updated education is the ability to use critical thinking, ICT application, individual, pair work, team work, functional literacy, creativity and effective teaching strategies for learning, brainstorming, INSERT, grouping, reflection and the Spiral curriculum. It should be noted that the world educational system is aimed at creating a qualitative specialist, which will be able to find a place in the society in terms of competitiveness. Without improving pedagogical methods, we reduce opportunities and effectiveness of reforming education standards.Within the framework of the updated educational program from 26 June to 22 July I passed a course on advanced training course of pedagogical staff in Taldykorgan. From the very first day of the course, we tried to find answers to many questions that we had in mind, with the peculiarities of the content of the general education. During this training, we have learned lectures on new English content, understanding the structure, goals and objectives of the updated curriculum, and applying appropriate pedagogical approaches, the system of criteria-based assessment in achieving educational objectives in the curriculum.During the course of the new program, the most memorable methods will undoubtedly contribute to the effective course of the lesson and to the formation of 4 skills (listening, speaking, and writing, reading): «Education Wall», «Hot Chair« We learned a lot from the course. I thank to Rosa Akhmetzhanovna, our trainer, who has increased our enthusiasm for our knowledge! Comparing previous knowledge with past knowledge, he reassured us that we did not understand and conveyed to the mind of each listener. During the course, our knowledge was further enhanced, and each lesson was interesting and interesting. At present, advanced teaching courses of pedagogical staff in a number of disciplines are still conducted in all regions of the country as part of updating the content of secondary education in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The method used by teachers has a significant impact on the effectiveness of the learning. Upon the updated program, each teacher achieves the following results:• the structure of the updated curriculum;• system and content of the updated curriculum;• purpose and design of the curriculum and documentation related to its implementation;• appropriate pedagogical approaches that help to implement the educational program. As the result the whole pedagogical process has been changed and an effective educational system has been developed.Using these methods, you can see that the students’ interest in learning process. It increases their curiosity. The criteria – based assessment system can be used effectively in each lesson. The 21st century is a century of science. Targeted education is a matter of personal development. And according to this European standard, new education is the only way to a comprehensive development of the individual!
I. Main part1.1. Criteria – based assessment and its importance Qualitative education is a continuous process of education and upbringing. At present, the goal of education is to create a highly educated, competitive individual. We should pay special attention to the fact that in the past, students should be only listeners, performers, and that the current student is an individual who is looking for education. And here is a new pedagogical technology available to it. And one of them is criteria- based assessment.Assessment is a concept that describes any activity that is used to make the learning outcomes as planned and systematically assimilated and to make a conclusion about the quality of the education. This concept involves two aspects: assessment of learning and assessment for learning. Different forms of assessment are described and targeted in the context of improved learning capacity. It is aimed at studying criteria-based assessment of learning. The term «assessment» means «to sit near».The main characteristics of the assessment for learning:1. Sharing learning objectives.2. Help Students to learn what they expect.3. Assessment of self-esteem and classmates.4. Providing comments that help students to improve the quality of their education.5. Developing students’ confidence that they can improve themselves.6. Analyze and analyze information about mutual assessment.Assessment of learning is a process of finding and interpreting data used by learners and their teachers to determine the stage in which they are studying, how to develop and reach the desired level.Criteria are criteria that fulfill learning objectives, namely, a list of activities that students can accomplish during their work.Practical significance:— work of a student is evaluated rather than an individual;— the student’s work is evaluated on a pre-defined criteria;— Assessment criteria defines specific learning objectives, so the student’s assessment is only for the study material.— A clear algorithm for the pupil is known to determine the level of his / her educational achievements and to provide this information to his / her parents.— The student’s interest in learning and self-assessment.
Criteria – based assessment allows for:Teachers1. Develop criteria that facilitate the achievement of qualitative results;2. To have operative information for the analysis and planning of its activity;3. Improve the quality of education;4. To build an individual trajectory of teaching of each student taking into account his individual abilities and features;5. Use a variety of approaches and assessment tools;6. Make proposals on improving the content of normative and methodological documents.Students:1. Use a variety of styles of learning, types of thinking activity and abilities to express one’s understanding;2. Know and understand the assessment criteria for predicting your own learning outcomes and understanding success;3. Participate in reflection, evaluating yourself and your peers;4. Use knowledge to solve real problems, express different points of view, criticallyParents:1. Obtain objective evidence of the level of education of your child:2. Monitor progress in the child’s learning;3. Provide support for the child in the learning process;4. Establish feedback from teachers and school administrators;5. Be confident and calm for the comfort of the child in the classroom and school. The demand of modern world is a well-educated, self-sustaining personality. In order to become an individual, it is necessary to identify the problem in different situations, to be able to make conclusions, to self-assess, to independently analyze critical information, to analyze, to prove logical operations, and to develop the competence of the individual in general. This teaches students to think critically.
2.1. Using criteria – based assessment in teaching EnglishIn my teaching practice I use two types of assessment. If I want to find out what my students know and can do or the difficulties they are experiencing, I use formative assessment. If I need to summarize the learning that has taken place, I use summative assessment. There are many kinds of formative assessment that I have been applying in the practice. Observation, Red/Green cards, students’ feedback, questioning are mostly used by me in the classroom. They are simple in function you don’t need extra preparation. The English language is taught through listening, writing, speaking and reading skills. They can be criteria for assessment as well because teacher should know where his students are in their learning according to these strands. In the practice I create descriptors to the task that covers a definite skill. One of the benefits of descriptors is to help the students to achieve the learning objectives. Here I would like to share with my experience and assignments done by 7 ‘V’ graders. Last year we organized Regional seminar according to the order of the Methodological cabinet. The learning objectives were to organize and present information clearly to others, to use Present Simple and Present continuous forms on a range of familiar general and curricular topics and to write with moderate grammatical accuracy on a limited range of general and curricular topics. I used ‘Mangilik Yel’ value: Secular society with high spirituality and Bloom taxonomy, SMARTER goalsThe following criteria were designed for assessment:
- recognize the content of an extended conversation using some supporting information
- provide unprepared speech to answer a variety of level to unexpected comments on a growing range of general and curricular topics
- demonstrate an ability to organize and express ideas clearly
- identify the correct form of a word, appropriate sentence structure and text layout
First of all I integrated students into two groups ‘Present Simple’ and ‘Present Continuous ’and then chose the leaders of the team by putting questions. In order to revise the previous lesson, I took a grammar quiz. After finishing, students exchanged their worksheets and check each other. The answers were shown on the board. Descriptor was to find correct answers. For FA I used ‘Knowledge passport’. On it I put smile stamps. I gave four tasks. The first task was a differentiated task. They listened to the audio attentively and matched questions 1-3 with answers a-c.
- Is Megan talking to Jack?
- What are Jack and Megan doing?
Descriptors were to listen to the audio and to match the answers. The second task was to describe the pictures by asking and answering the following questions. Talk about 1 minute. I used CCQ strategy. It was GW and PW. Method: Learners pass a soft toy, whoever has it, must answer your next question and they pass it on to the learner of their choice.
Descriptors were to support his team, to use all special questions, to give full and extended answers. After having done two tasks, we had a dynamic break. I myself wrote the strings according to the theme of the lesson.. Now, my friends, let’s train. You are standing nowYou are sitting nowYou are clapping hands nowYou are active nowYou are dancing nowYou are shaking nowYou are happy at the momentBecause you areEnjoying the lesson now!!!Thank you, sit down!
The third task was to write a riddle about the things in the class.Captains came to me and took 2 cards. In those cards the answers of the riddles were written. Their task was to make 2 riddles on the basis of the words in their papers. They used Present Simple and Present Continuous forms. (GW)KEY WORDS: a classroom, a teacher, pupils, a chair Descriptors were to make up riddles and to find answers.Descriptors were to order the words to make sentences and to read the completed sentences. After every task I put stamps on their Knowledge passport. At the end of the lesson, students reflect on:— what they learned— what remained unclear for them— what they need to continue working on
I know I doubt I don’t know I thanked to my students, giving red, green, yellow colored medals as assessment. The captains of the team took them and awarded their members according to their activity in the lesson. After that I took my lesson plan and wrote the differentiation and reflection. In my teaching practice I would keep on improving my skills on working by criteria-based system as in my opinion it is a very effective way in assessment system. I have found that it makes work easier in interpretation and assessment and beneficial for all participants: learners, parents and teachers.
II. Conclusion The future of our country, the enrichment of civilized countries is reflected in today’s generation. The problem of modern education is the search for effective, new methods of innovation in the content of education, and the training of teachers who can implement them in terms of social and pedagogical and organizational issues.Being able to work in the modern society with the help of modern direction is one of the main challenges facing each teacher. The role of methodological work of the school in the implementation of these tasks is unusual. It is necessary to organize a variety of methodological meetings among school teachers. In short, the essence of this program is the formation of functional literacy of the student. The student should be able to apply the knowledge gained in his school. That is why this program is based on the notion of «Life Link». The teachers have a great responsibility. In order to be successful in all aspects of life in the twenty-first century, teachers must work hard to provide the necessary skills. Within the updated program, only educated teachers who only regard their subject, their profession can work. We learn and learn so much.
